The environmental sustainability of the fashion industry is hugely important for the future of our planet. It’s responsible for 10% of annual global carbon emissions and the second-most water intensive industry in the world.
And one of the industry’s biggest problems is cheap fast fashion. A $10 t-shirt might feel like a bargain when you’re in the store, but it’s led over-production - which means more carbon and more water used - and then the dumping of masses of unwanted clothes in developing countries, where they cause pollution and destroy local industries.
It’s fashion customers who hold most power to pressure retailers to change, but we figured a lot of them might not be racing to read social stories. So instead we through a fashion show, created with a little help from AI.
Take a catwalk through the world’s fast fashion dumps.
